Traci Miller
ASTRO Foundation Board of Directors

How long have you been with the Board?
Since August of 2024.

What made you want to join the ASTRO Foundation Board of Directors?
I love what the organization does for the community. It provides an essential service and at the same time brings joy to people by knowing they are helping save the lives of stray animals.
Where do you live?
I live in Modesto.
Tell us a little about your day, what do you do, what have you done? I am recently retired and enjoy the art of “nothing.” Spending over 30 years working at a fast pace, the art of doing nothing is a welcomed relief. My days may consist of long walks, hanging out in my second home in Oklahoma, traveling, taking care of family, playing with our grandchildren, sitting in a movie and taking a nap if I need to. The “joy of nothing” has allowed me to read for pleasure, see birds, butterflies, sunrises, sunsets, rainy nights, smiling children and cooing babies with a renewed sense of happiness and joy.
Are you currently participating in any other organizations or associations?
No, I am not, after many years of belong to professional organizations, I am using this newfound free time to explore what the next phase of my journey will bring.

Any past affiliations you would like to share?
I was proudly a member of the Eleanor Project a leadership organization for women. In addition. I belonged to the California School Counselors Association where a few years ago I was named the California Outstanding School Administrator for the work I did to transform the delivery model for school counselors in the district I was working in.
What unique talents and skills do you bring to the board?
I can multi-task and problem solve and because of my work leading a large urban school district, I understand the complexities of running an organization. I can rally people behind a cause. Years ago, I created an award-winning high school where I was able to bring together a community advisor board which consisted of state and local elected officials, hospital administrators, university and college administrators, business owners to recruit them to assist the school with policy and curriculum ideas.
We would love to hear about your family, starting with your pets…
I have been married for 36 years, we have 3 children and 6 grandchildren. The grandchildren are all boys ranging from age 13 to 3 years of age. The grandchildren all live in Oakdale. The boys are involved in various sports in the local community. We carry fold up chairs in our cars
for game days. I enjoy watching college football with my dog named Sooner. Sooner is my shadow. He follows me from room to room. He is my little buddy.
Finally, what excites you about being part of the ASTRO board of directors?
I look forward to getting to know the other folks who are involved in the organization and look forward to seeing how many more cats and dogs that are saved by ASTRO will bring continued joy to families. I can’t wait to spread the word on the great work being done by ASTRO!
